This is what I did to my phone and 3DS.

Wipe with an alcohol wet wipe and let it dry.
Clean with a microfiber cloth.
Use clear tape to remove any hair, prints, dust, etc.
Wash hands, and dry with a fresh clean, and dry towel.
Remove the adhesive filter layer and apply the screen protector.
