Are Scoly corals aggressive?
Scolymia corals are considered to be semi-aggressive.
Are Scoly corals hard to keep?
Scolymia are easy corals to keep and are best kept on the sandbed. They are fairly slow growing but will accept almost all meaty foods and coral foods designed for lps corals.
What is a Scoly coral?
Scolymia corals are large polyp stony (LPS) corals. Scolymia corals are round in shape and found in cup, saucer, flat, or dome-shaped variations. They usually have a single oral opening present in the center. Some species may have more than one. A Scolymia can grow up to 4 inches in diameter.
Why are Scoly corals so expensive?
Most Scolymia today, at least the very sought after colorful ones come out of Australia. It mostly comes from the permits that are given each season to be able to collect them. Only so many get harvested each year, and of course,the rarest and most colorful ones go for the most money.
Can you dip a Scoly coral?
ALL corals should be dipped. You can use Revive or Coral Rx on a scoly. You can even use Bayer if you want.
Where do you put Scoly coral?
Scolymia do best on the sandbed under lower lighting conditions. They can also be kept on lower rock work but you should keep them on flat surfaces so that they don’t fall over. Its best to give it room away from other LPS corals that may sting it.
Can Scolys touch?
None of my Scolys are touching other Scolys, but they are fine with Acan Lords and Bowerbanki. The chalices will put the hurt on the acans if they grow too close together.
Can a clownfish host a torch coral?
Torch corals will host clownfish, but the clownfish are also likely to kill it with their “nuzzling”. The coral will also never fully expand once clownfish start interacting with it.
Do torch corals sting humans?
All coral and even a large amount of invertebrates and fish release toxins or ‘defense liquids’ when touched or handled. Some people are allergic to these ‘defense liquids’ so thats what the ‘sting’ is.

Can You Frag a Scolymia?
Fragging Scolymia isn’t usually considered a good idea. In order to frag, or split, a Scolymia, you would need to cut through a good amount of coral flesh and hard, calcified structure, which makes the process difficult to begin with.
