Are compact fluorescent UVB bulbs safe?
Compact Fluorescent Bulbs initially got a very bad rap when they were first introduced to the reptile marketplace, as early designs emitted a spectrum that could damage a reptile’s vision. That was corrected long ago, and modern compact fluorescent UVB bulbs are perfectly safe to use with your pets.
What does a UVB bulb do?
UVB wavelength allows reptiles the ability to regulate their own Vitamin D3 levels naturally, enabling them to properly absorb calcium. Without sufficient UVB, these reptiles can develop metabolic bone disease, bone softening and deformation, or other serious illnesses.
Does ReptiSun 10.0 give off heat?
Does this lamp give off heat as well as UVA and UVB light? This bulb gives 30% UVA that helps to increase activity levels, appetite, and reproductive behavior, 10% UVB helps to prevent or reverse metabolic bone disease. This doesn’t provide the heat you will need for your reptile.
How long does a t8 UVB last?
A: This lamp will provide optimum levels of UVB for 12 months so it should be replaced once a year.
Is ReptiSun 10.0 good?
In general, the 5.0 bulbs are recommended for box turtles. Zoo Med does suggest its ReptiSun 10.0 High Output bulb is a good option over screen covers. Since these covers block about half the rays the higher output of these bulbs means your pet should still get enough UV rays.
